Last year I became obsessed with creating everything with jelly rolls like how we make the jelly roll rugs. I started a couple years ago making rugs then quickly moved to making bowls, baskets and even some purses. One day I had an idea to create something to hang on my door. I had seen large bows before and thought they are super cute so why not try to make one but in the jelly roll tubes. That is how my Giant Fabric Bow came about.
I have created a cute way to use jelly roll tubes for much more besides rugs. I love making all sorts of door hangers now. I have made a flower, heart, bunny, and even most recently a butterfly. It sure has been a lot of fun creating all these fun jelly roll projects. I love being able to share them all with everyone else too. That’s why I started making videos showing every step of my process as well as making written instructions. I know we all learn differently and I wanted a way for everyone to be able to have a chance to make these fun jelly roll creations too.
I actually love them so much that I wrote a book about them! At the beginning of this year I released my book, Jelly Roll Fabric Creations; Rugs, Baskets, Bowls and More you can find exclusively available on my website here. It features ten of my patterns including this Giant Fabric Bow. I go in depth with lots of pictures showing every step.
You can find my step by step Giant Jelly Roll Fabric Bow Door Hanger pattern tutorial here. I also have a mailed option available as well here.

Here is an example of how much you can make out of one full jelly roll. I was able to make one bow, a small table centerpiece, a little Christmas tree cone, and some Christmas tree ornaments from the cut off scraps. Even if you do not use a precut jelly roll, you can still have a lot of fun with these. I cut my own fabric often and you will still have some scrappy leftover to play with.
Here is a video showing you exactly how I construct one of these bow. The finished size ends up being around 19×26″ depending…sometimes it can be a little longer or short depending on the way you are trimming your fabric. I like to use as much as I can so I just sew up the width of fabric (how jelly rolls are cut too) and that gives me the length I need.

Here are my most recent patriotic jelly roll bows. With these I did a different hook for the handle everyone loved! I think I like it better too. It’s using the same method as I do for the way I made the other hook, but this time you twist the remaining fabric around to create a little twisted tube. Then I tuck it in and secure it with glue and hand stitches if needed.
Here are a list of all the supplies I use when making these Giant Fabric Jelly Roll Bow Door Hangers. Not every items is needed, but I find a lot of them to be beneficial.
