I get asked often where it is that I get my jelly roll fabrics from. Well, that’s not a simple answer since I shop around a lot. There are a few websites that I check out often and shop their sales from. So I decided that it may be beneficial for everyone if I comprised a list made up of all the places I like to shop with links too. Jelly Rolls are 2.5″ pre cut fabric strips that make creating easier. They come in a wide range of fabric selections already curated to make a wonderful project.

Amazon is a great place to find fabrics at a low cost. But, be careful because the quality of the fabrics can be misleading. Often you will see they claim to be cotton but when you get them they are definitely not. Polyester fabric will work for fabric rug making, but it can be more difficult to work with. That’s why I always recommend Tinyspool fabrics for beginners. They are always accessible, affordable and great quality.
When shopping online at fabric stores I am sure to sign up for their newsletters so I can be notified when they offer sales or deals. I almost never buy a jelly roll at full cost. You will find some fabrics will be near $60 for one forty count jelly roll. That can get so pricey to make a rug. Whether you are making one for yourself or to sell it’s best to be able to get them at the lowest cost you can. Shopping the sales is a great way to do just that.

Here is the list of places I personally shop online:
Shop Jelly Rolls on Amazon
Fat Quarter Shop
Missouri Star Quilt Co
Green Fairy Quilts
Annie’s Attic
Shabby Fabrics
You can also totally get fabric by the yard and cut it to make these jelly roll creations too. I sometimes will grab some cute prints that catch my eye if they also happen to be on sale, of course. If you are looking to get enough yardage to match a jelly roll you will need about three yards of fabric. I have found some great low prices at Hobby Lobby for fabric by the yard and recently I spotted that Michael’s is having some jelly rolls online as well.

Some fabrics you will find will be more expensive then others. Then some fabrics you will find are harder to find then others. My favorite fabric Botany by Moda and Midnight Meadows is really hard to find anywhere in stock. I tend to have a gravitation to pick the ones that are not easy to be found for some reason…LOL. So that is just something to think about too when shopping for fabrics or offering options to potential customers.
I have a new book featuring fun jelly roll projects made using fabric strips and batting. The book features 10 of my patterns, full of pictures, tips and sizing guides. My book, Jelly Roll Rug Creations, can be found exclusively here.
