When making anything handmade it takes time…a lot of it. I’ve been trying to find ways to cut some of that time back with my rug making. I found that rolling my fabric up after sewing the fabric strips together and after making the ropes were just very time consuming.
Someone had mentioned on my video about how they just let them fall into a bin. Well I had thought what a tangled mess that would be. When I first started I let me fabric ropes fall and tried to wind them up neatly and it just ended up a tangled mess. So wrapping them aaround a paper towel tube had been working great and it looked pretty. But it felt like forever to do and it hurt my wrists.
So I decided to use the pink pastic tote bins we got for soda buckets for my daughters graduation party. Those worked great. I just have it on the side of my desk and toss in the fabric strip once I snip off the ends and then after I sew my ropes it just falls neatly into the bin.
To my surprise it worked out really nicely and I had no issues using the rope from the bins to sew my rugs. It cut back a lot of time and I will be doing this from now on for sure.
